Bibbulmun Track

The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1000 kilometres from Kalamunda, a suburb in the outskirts of Perth, to the historic town of Albany on the south coast. It passes through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia.

The track is for walkers only and is signposted with yellow triangular markers symbolising the ‘Waugal’ (rainbow serpent of the Aboriginal Dreaming). It takes walkers through towering Karri and Tingle forests, down mist-shrouded valleys, over giant granite boulders and along breathtaking coastal heathlands.

The Bibbulmun Track offers a wide range of experiences, from a gentle stroll where walkers can enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural environment, to an epic eight week adventure. You can make it a wilderness experience by camping out, or do it in comfort by staying in the towns along the track and enjoying day walks in the area. The track passes through Dwellingup, Collie, Balingup, Donnelly River Village, Pemberton, Northcliffe, Walpole and Denmark.

Track facilities include 48 bushwalker campsites, each with a three-sided timber sleeping shelter, pit toilet, rainwater tank, tent areas and picnic tables.

A wide variety of short walks, interpretive tours, accommodation and walking packages are offered by the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, which is a not-for-profit organisation that helps promote and maintain the track. The foundation also provides a free information service, equipment hire and a range of merchandise including maps.

Although the track is well marked, walker’s are advised to use a map or guidebook.

The maps and guide books published by The Department of Environment and Conservation provide a wealth of information including car access points, campsite locations and distance tables.
